In world many saints and preachers took birth. They meditated
of God all the time unless they came in contact with God. According to God’s decision
they gave rise to different religions. One of them was Gautama Buddha who grew
up to be a great saint.
He was born in 563 B.C. His
childhood name was Siddhartha. His father’s name was Shuddhodhana, the king of
Kapilavastu. His mother’s name was Maya Devi. He died when Siddhartha was only
seven days old. It was predicted that Siddhartha would be ruler the whole world
if remained at home. Thus his father tried to give him a luxurious life.
Gautama was not only handsome but very clever too. As a prince he had rich
clothes to wear, good food to eat and a large area to live. He was taught how
to ride a horse how top shoot and to swim. In fact he learnt all the lessons
that a prince should know. His father did not allow him to leave the palace
because he was worried that his son might leave the home to become a wandering
holy man. When he was 19 years old his father got him married to a princess
called Yashodhara. They both were very happy and lead a lovely life. After
sometime a son was born to them, they named him Rahula.
Once Siddhartha came out with his charioteer.
Siddhartha was greatly touched by as he saw an old man, a sick man, a dead
body and a man whose head was shaven. He wanted to do something to deliver the
humanity from all such misery. He focused on this problem for a long time. On
hearing some words from a hermit he was encouraged and he left the palace. He
went into the forest and meditated there when his family was asleep. He put his
full concentration to know the secret of life and death and observed long
fasts. He formed a new religion called Buddhism.
At last, he got enlightenment under the Bodhi
tree at Gaya. Now, he became Buddha the enlightened one. Like this great saint
many other saints took birth that formed a history of new religions. These are
the messengers of God who came on Earth to save the people from crimes and
misery.
